About Us

St Michael’s Hall Redevelopment

The project involves the refurbishment and extension of the iconic St Michael’s Hall and site, located in the town centre of Cootehill. The redeveloped building will be transformed to provide a multifunctional community space, including an upgraded and refurbished event/arts theatre space.

The works will consist of the upgrading of the existing original hall (a protected structure), appropriate demolition of existing side and rear extensions, construction of a new side and rear extension to provide a new entrance lobby, reception area and office, community meeting rooms (8no), toilet and changing facilities, kitchen, storage rooms and a large hall to the rear which can be subdivided to provide for a multiplicity of uses as demand requires.

Once complete the project will deliver a focal point for the community and act as a catalyst for the regeneration of this area of Cootehill town centre, as well as providing a critical community space to assist with the revitalisation of the town centre.

Further, as an existing protected structure, this project safeguards the conservation of the original parish hall as well as sustainably repurposing the hall as an event space.

Fairgreen Community Centre Company T/A St Micheals Hall Redevelopment Committee

This voluntary led community committee was established in 2022 and was formed to preserve the historic building and to deliver a multifunctional community space to meet current and future needs for the population of Cootehill and its hinterland. A strong committee with a wide breadth of lived experience has formed, encompassing individuals who have expertise in a broad range of community activities and working backgrounds. The project involves people who are excited by this project, and most importantly see the necessity for it for the wider community.

In the first year the committee focused on establishing community company (CLG) status and registered charity status is pending. A number of public consultation events and fundraisers were organised, all of which inputted into financing, preparing and securing planning permission for the project.

The new company will be leasing space to community groups. These community groups will receive appropriate training to ensure the operation runs as projected and smoothly. They will also be operating and managing the space, allowing the booking of events to occur and co-ordinating users in accordance with an agreed code of practice.

Primarily end-users will be the local community and businesses. Local community groups, families, businesses and residents can book the facilities for private events such parties, concerts and events, board meetings, sports classes, training, etc.
